The Roll of the Duke of Atholl's Fencible Men (1705-06) does not mention any men by the name of Moon in Glen Fincastle, nor were there any in Bonskeid, Coille Bhrochain and Borenich. However, within forty years at least one family had arrived in that area.
Alexander Moon and Janet (Jonet) Ferguson in Edintian, Glen Fincastle
15th December 1746, Dull OPR
Alexander Moon and Janet (Jonet) Ferguson both in (Glen) Fincastle, this parish, got a testificate to be married.
As the Dull OPR states that Alexander Moon and Janet Ferguson 'got a testificate', rather than 'were married', suggests that they were married elsewhere, and that neither party originated from Glen Fincastle. It is worth noting that a Donald Moon married Janet Buttar, 9th February 1749 (Dull OPR and Logierait OPR), and that this couple were living at Edintian at the same time as Alexander Moon and his wife. This suggests that Donald and Alexander were brothers.

Isobel, daughter to Alexander Moon and Janet Ferguson in Balinald (of Fincastle) was baptised.
Edintian was towards the top of Glen Fincastle and in Dull parish. Newtown of Fincastle was beyond it, at the top of the glen, just before Carrick which was in Blair Atholl parish. The settlement was never of any great size, with a single house (66 foot by 12 foot) consisting of a living area of 30 foot flanked on either side by stores or workshops, both of 18 foot. In front were two smaller farm buildings, each roughly 20 foot by 12 foot. Only the grass-covered stone footings are now visible, and it is probable that all the buildings were cruck-framed and thatched. Some maps show the settlement name as Uchdabhreidy.

Donald Moon and Margaret McLagan in Aldclune.
Donald Moon in Aldclune and Margaret McLagan in Aldclune, married 26th January 1793.
It is thought that Donald Moon in Aldclune was the son of Alexander Moon and Janet (Jonet) Ferguson in Glen Fincastle because men tended to marry in their thirties, and only two Donald Moons who were baptised between 1740 and 1773 in Perthshire. The other Donald Moon was the son of George Moon and Christian McGlashan in Wester Balrobie who married Cecilia (Cicel) Seaton in nearby Pitdornie, 7th February 1797.
The couple had nine children, all born at Aldclune, and as they were living on the west side of the Allt Clune in Blair Atholl parish, they do not appear in either of the minister of Moulin's 1806 census or 1820 census. However they do appear in the 1841 national census.
