John Seaton and Elspeth McCraw in Tombea (Tombeith)

The Blair Atholl OPR records that John Seaton in Ardtulichan married Elspeth McCraw in Spardon, Moulin parish, 13th December 1785.

Normally, after getting married, the bride would move to the husband's settlement, even if the first child was born at the bride's home, under the watchful eye of her mother. However in this case John Seaton seem to have taken up residence with his wife's family. This would suggest that he was not expecting to eventually take over from his father at Ardtulican, or that he was an artisan of some sort, such as a wright, mason or shoemaker. It was not until 1792 that he was back near Ardtulichan, living at Tombea (Tombeith) which was also called Nether Pitdornie, and eventually back at Ardtulichan by 1803. Although settlements were next to each other, Ardtulichan was in Blair Atholl parish, whereas Pitdornie and Tombea were in Moulin parish.
