The Testament Dative and Inventory
of Charles Murray, vintner in Crieff, 1767

Charles Murray The Testament Dative and Inventory of the goods, gear, debts and sums of money which pertained and belonged and was resting to umquhile (deceased) Charles Murray, vintner in Crieff, (at) the time of his decease which was on the 23rd February 1766 years, truely made and given up (by) Jean McGlashan, widow of the said defunct, executrix dative qua creditor, ordained to the said defunct by the Commissary of Dunkeld upon the third day of February last, and that in payment to her as follows, viz:
Of seven pounds five shilling eight pence Sterling money expended by her on the defunct's funeral per accounts and receipts and discharges relative besides and that over and above, fifteen pounds six shillings Sterling for wines and other liquors given not thereto, from her stock of liquors which are not comprehended in the Inventory thereof herein in grossed.
Item, of four pounds Sterling money as the wages of Mary Young, chambermaid, for serving the defunct from Martinmass 1764 to Whitsunday 1766 years, paid out by the said executrix to her per dischange.
Item, of five pounds money foresaid as the wages of Rachell Cook, kitchen-maid, for serving the defunct from Martinmass 1763 to Whitsunday 1766 years, paid out by her, the said executrix, per discharge.
Item, one pound Sterling as the wages of Nancy Gloig, cook-maid, for serving the defunct from Martinmass 1765 to Whitsunday 1766 years, also paid out by the said executrix per discharge.
Item, of one pound seventeen shillings and two pence Sterling as the wages likewise paid out by the said executrix to Isobell McEwan, bairns-woman for her service in that station to the defunct from March 1765 to Whitsunday 1766 years.
Item, of one pound ten shillings Sterling money as the wages due (to) Christian Buchanan, also bairn's maid for that service to the defunct from August 1765 to Whitsunday 1766, also paid out to her by the said executrix per discharge.
Item, of five pounds Sterling money as the wages due (to) Donald Robertson, hostler, for serving the defunct from Whitsunday 1765 to Whitsunday 1766, paid out by the executrix per discharge.
And of one pound ten shillings Sterling money as wages due (to) Donald Stewart, another servant for serving the defunct from March 1765 to Whitsunday 1766, likewise paid out by the executrix to him per discharge.
Extending (totalling) the said servants' wages paid out, to nineteen pounds seven shillings two pence Sterling. Moreover in implement and payment to her of the following provision, viz:
Item, the life-rent of two hundred and fifty pounds Sterling money which the defunct, by the contract of marriage past, betwixt him and the said Jean McGlashan, his wife, bearing date the 22nd September 1758 years, bound and obliged him to secure her on, in case she outlived him, and whether there was children existing of the marriage or not.
And lastly, in payment to her of the expenses of this present confirmation as the decreet dative following on an edict duly executed and endorsed in itself more fully bears.

Imprimis (Firstly), there is given up, pertaining and belonging to the said umquhile Charles Murray time foresaid of his decease, the whole house furniture and insight plenishing comprehending his stock of liquors also his whole out moveables and stocking and all his ......... contained in a particular inventory taken and as appreciate (valued) by James Drummond of Croftnappach and Alexander Tait, writer in Crieff, with the af...tance therein mentioned in the ninth of April 1766 years, in virtue of the said Commissary his warrant directed to them bearing date the 24th March said year, ammounting in whole to four hundred and fourty-four pounds five shillings one penny Sterling money as per said inventory consisting of sixteen pates subscribed by the said James Drummond and Alexander Tait and documented the 22nd of said month of April, year as written, and produced before this Commissary Court as their report on the 29 day of the same month and the said production subscribed by him of that date.

Summa Inventory

Imprimis, there is given up, resting to the said umquhile Charles Murray the time foresaid of his decease, the sums of money following, viz:
The sum of thirty eight pounds seven shillings six pence Sterling money by Mr Patrick McGlashan in Blair, per contract of marriage betwixt the said defunct and the said Jean McGlashan, his spouse.
Item, the sum of fifty eight pounds four shillings ten pence Sterling money by Alexander McLaren of East Haugh per bills, both payable at Martinmass 1765 years.
Item, nine pounds sixteen shillings six pence Sterling by Edmund Fergusson of Baledmund, per bill, payable the 20 March 1763 years, and interest to the 20 day of February 1766 years.
Item, four pounds nineteen shillings and nine pence Sterling by ditto per open account of sundries.
Item, one pound fifteen shillings four pence Sterling by Miss Grizel Robertson by bill payable Whitsunday 1763 and interest to Whitsunday 1766.
Item, by ditto, three shillings Sterling by an open account.
Item, one pound twelve shillings Sterling by John Ballantine, mason in Dunkeld, per bill, payable at Whitsunday 1762 years and interest thereon.
Item, nineteen shillings Sterling by John McDonald, mason, per open account anno 1763.
Item, four pounds eleven shillings Sterling money by Mr Duncan in Dundee, per open account anno 1763.
Item, seventeen pounds nine shillings Sterling money by William McGlashan, brother to Mrs Murray, the relict, payable at Martinmass 1756 years and interest to Martinmass 1765 years.
Item, ten shillings one penny Sterling by Mr McIntosh, younger of Borlum, per account, payable on October last.
Item, eighteen shillings eight pence Sterling by Alexander Tait in Crieff, per account anno 1765.
Item, ten shillings eight pence Sterling by James Drummond of Croftnappach, per account, said year.
Item, six shillings two pence Sterling by Duncan Robertson, merchant in Crieff, foresaid year.
Item, sixteen shillings ten pence Sterling by John Archibald, wright in Crieff, per account anno 1765.
Item, seven shillings eight pence Sterling money by James Allan, younger(?) per account said year.
Item, fourteen shillings eight pence Sterling by Mr (Mungo) Campbell of Monzie (and Clune), paid said year.
Item, ten shillings Sterling by the (Norman), Laird of McLeod, paid foresaid year.
Item, six shillings money foresaid by Mrs Dutchfield in Dunkeld, per account, said year 1765.
Item, eight shillings six pence by General Graeme, said year per account.
Item, ten shillings ten pence Sterling money by Anthony Murray of Crieff (and Dollarie), paid said year.
Item, five shillings two pence Sterling money by Andrew Hutton, shoemaker, per account said year 1765.
Item, two pounds ten shillings Sterling money by John Brough, carpenter, per account said year.
Item, six shillings Sterling by Donald McHomish, brewer in Crieff, per account said year.
And six pounds Sterling in cash to the house at the defunct's death.

Summa Inventory and Debts.

This testament was confirmed by Mr Thomas Bisset, Commissary of Dunkeld, on the twenty day of August 1767 years, and Patrick McGlashan of Lambtown cautioner for the executrix per bond, and she for (his) relief.
